FddA

In 1995, US Bioscience was granted an exclusive worldwide license
by the National Institutes of Health for FddA for the treatment of HIV
infection, HIV-related infection or HIV-related diseases in humans. FddA
and its active metabolite, FddI, were discovered by scientists at the
National Institutes of Health. In in vitro studies of HIV, FddA has not
demonstrated cross resistance to AZT, ddI or ddC and has shown
synergistic activity with AZT. The NCI has filed an Investigational New
Drug Application and initiated a phase I clinical program for FddA. US
Bioscience intends to collaborate in this program and to develop a
supplementary clinical program in the United States and Europe.
