1999 "Out-of-cycle" reviews
Given the White House effort to obscure the importance of the South
African trade pressures, I thought it would be interesting to determine
the number of cases where the USTR is seeking "out-of cycle reviews" of
country trade policies. There were nine, including:
Colombia
the Czech Republic
Hong Kong
Israel
Korea
Kuwait
Malaysia
Poland
South Africa
In three cases, South Africa, Isreal and Kuwait, the issues involved
pharmacueticals. The other cases were largely focused on copyright
issues.
