Subject: PhRMA's lobbying expenses
I thought the following news maybe of interest to subscribers to this
list:
"The Pharmaceutical Research & Manufacturers of America reported $2.8
million in federal lobbying expenses for the first half of 1996, including
$560,000 in outside contracts.....Included among PhRMA's outside contracts
was $20,000 paid to Sidley & Austin for discussions with Congress and the
U.S. Trade Representative on Argentina's trade status. That work was led
by firm partner Judith Bello, who has since been hired by PhRMA President
(and former Sidley & Austin attorney) Alan Holmer as exec VP-policy &
strategic affairs. In addition to tax, patent, FDA and health reform efforts,
PhRMA lobbying included discussions of the biologic and chemical weapons
conventions with Congress and the Departments of State, Commerce and
Defense." [F-D-C Reports - "The Pink Sheet" Oct 14, 1996 T&G-5]
