Re: A little humor...
I hope this is JUST humor and not some advocation that these agencies be
completely abolished. :-)
I look at it this way: people always think they're never going to 'need'
government services or benefits -- it's always somebody else; or that they're
automatically getting ripped off by the IRS or any government agency. Yet,
each of us benefits from this system, too, whether we choose to admit it or
not.
I echo Margaret's sentiments to Greg re: taxes, government programs.
What is a society if not a collection of people who develop a system of
governance (including taxation -- the benefits of which we see in
roads/highways, telephone systems, parklands, to name but a few, and programs
to help the least of us)? Seems to me this form of democracy, with all its
faults, is better than the violent chaos and rule of the wealthy and powerful
over the poor and weak that would result if we just threw these systems out.
