GM/FBI Confiscate Med Recs??

The following are from a public forum on my ISP. I just happened onto it
this evening. I've contacted the FLINT JOURNAL requesting copies of the
pertinent articles in their paper as the paper's URL does not give one the
capability of searching their archives yourself.

GM and lackeys...

Recently, GM made headlines with a "raid" on doctors who falsely
give sick-leaves and Drs. excuses to GM employee's. This is a classic
example of having a big corporate giant, who otherwise could not have access
to personal files from employee's private phsyican's files, gain access. To
me, this is just another legal example of how we have been losing our civil
liberties and is in effect, a direct violation of our confidentuality laws.
It would seem that our government would have better things to do than to be
a paid snoop for GM. This reeks of contract year politics.

As the truth comes out on GM's ,"raid" against Doctors who are giving false
statements to UAW members for sick leaves, etc,(Flint Journal, Sat Aug 21),
it shows how much power the corporation really has. If they can use the FBI
to futher their goals, whatever they may be at the momment, they really have
pushed back the clock and we sit by and just go along. Fundemental,
confidential and basic civil rights here were violated. I smelled a rat when
I found out that only GM employees records were taken from these Doctors
offices. This action should not be swept under the rug and GM should be
prosecuted under the full extent of the law.

GM, being a corporate citizen, has every right to investigate wrong
doing and submit their findings to a law enforcement agency. People are
standing up for these docs and shouting what wonderful practioners they are.
That is probably true, but they committed fraud to allow employees of GM to
obtain money under false pretenses.

If GM was serious about prosecuting Docs who give out false s/l paper work
why did they use laid off Pinkerton rent-a-security to do their
investagaing? GM is always looking for the cheapest way to do things. Also,
why not go after the big dogs too in the medical field! It all blew up in
their corprate face.

The whole point is this was a flagrant violation of our basic rights.
By using a branch of the Federal Government, they can gain access to
personal files with impunity.

I don't think the FBI provided anything to GM. I think GM used private
sector investigators to determine if GM was being ripped off. GM then
submitted their findings to the FBI. It is silly that we are
acknowleging the fraud of the workers and condemning GM's effort to address
the fraud.

I am paid hourly. I am a union member. I founded a union. I was
president of two unions. But no place other than Flint, Michigan,
would anyone assert the investigators of the criminal activity were
wrong and those commiting the crime were right.

My doctor is one of those charged. Also Terry, I always thought you were
innocent until proven guilty. I know for a fact that the only thing my
doctor is guilty of is having a large part of his practice, UAW members.
About one year ago, GM approached him to go HMO, he declined saying that
that was not in the best interest of his patients. Also, the only records
that were taken were GM employee's who had disability cases against GM. On
every case my doctor has two or three different opinions. But that way, even
when his name is cleared GM will not be liable for prosecution. I cant speak
for the other doctors in question, maybe some of them were guilty as
charged, but if they are innocent too... I smell a big rat.
