In the next several hours, a House-Senate Conference Committee will decide on
the joint version of the Kennedy-Kassebaum Health Care bill, H3103.
Specifically, the U.S. House is pushing for inclusion of its "Administrative
Simplification" amendment (which is not present in the Senate's version),
before the bill is sent to the President.
If "Administrative Simplification" is included. this bill will be profoundly
destructive to the Medical Privacy Rights of each and every American.
Specifically:
1.) Medical Records will be computerized in vast databases run by large
corporations (including certain consumer credit reporting companies) and/or
by the government. This will create a COMPUTERIZED "LENDING LIBRARY" OF ALL
OF OUR MEDICAL RECORDS.
Just as the military can't protect its computers from unauthorized access, so
too the new Medical Records "Lending Library" will be at risk.
2.) Each of us will have a "UNIQUE HEALTH IDENTIFIER" NUMBER assigned to us
----- and this will be referenced in any and all health care. (Where is
privacy in this???)
3.) IT WILL PRE-EMPT: STATE LAWS PROTECTING OUR MEDICAL PRIVACY.
IF YOU VALUE YOUR MEDICAL PRIVACY, THE TIME TO ACT IS NOW.
Tell these senators that "ADMINISTRATIVE SIMPLIFICATION" needs a NO vote.
