Korea->Vietnam vets & AO; EU ban on pthalates
AP had a story on 10 Nov. on a federal suit for $1b for some 30,000 of such
Agent Orange et al. exposed Korean nationals who have been denied death &
disability benefits, while NZ's and Canadians have received benefits in an
out-of-court settlement that denied them to the Koreans. Weren't the Cold
War a noble one (twisting the S. Korean's arms over the K. War obligation
in order to be able to show diversity in the fight against communism in
Vietnam)? The Korean govt & Ntl Assembly are also defendants in this new
suit; those 2 parties are feuding on what to do, but are in diplomatic
negotiations w/ the US govt over the 320,000 (!) Koreans who served in
Vietnam.

Interesting that no one's posted a story about the EU's first ever use of
its emergency powers in banning chewable PVC toys w/ pthalates, they "hope"
before Xmas (no chance, IMO). Got into a bit of the major media, tho the
stories I saw & heard largely failed to mention PVC, much less the word
stem 'chlor-'. One story (WSJ, I think) briefly mentioned some of the US
CPSC's despicable actions in preventing such a move. The ban does not
include a recall, nor does it cover other phtahlate plasticized items that
pose a high exposure risk.
