incinerator in Ireland
HI folks,
Here's a message from an incinerator foe in Ireland who needs info. Please
respond directly to her as well as the list, since I don't believe she
belongs to the dioxin-l list.
Thanks,
Neil

>Dear Neil,
>I am secretary to a community group opposing the building of a municipal
waste incinerator in our area, or anywhere else in Ireland. We are trying
to encourage ecologically sustainable waste management practices that do
not rely on incineration or landfilling.
> Some of the councillors have mentioned gasification and pyrolysis to
us as possible options. Although we would be opposed to these also on the
basis that they do not tackle the source of the problem and contribute to
perpetuating both industries and society's wasteful practices, we would
like to actually know something about these processes.
> We recently compiled a submission to our local county council on
their disappointing Waste Management Plan, with our objections to
incineration and offering numerous other suggestions to tackling the waste
issue. (All of which would need to be implemented in order to make a
difference). We will be meeting them soon to discuss the issue. We know
what they will say though- that the new incinerators have almost no
emissions, and that all the problems have been with the old ones. What do
we say about that?- I can think of some things- can you think of some more?
Also can you tell me of any web sites where I can get some information on
those treatments I mentioned. They will probably bring up gasification or
pyrolysis as possiblities, that's why we need to know something about these
processes.
>Yes, I would like to be on the list serve.
> Thanking you,
> Siobhan Dowling.
> Got your e-mail address from P.Connet.
