Re: Coffee Filters & Dioxin



ATSDR's draft _Toxicolgical Profile for Chlorinated dibenzo-p-Dioxins_ ,
p. 394 summarizes some data from var studies, some comparing oxybleached or
no paper filter dioxin levels.  Cl bleached filters had the highest levels,
from ppq to the low ppt levels (TEq).  A couple studies found ~ 1/3 eluted
into the coffee.  5 pg/d TEq may be a common ingestion rate--another was up
to 1.4 pg/cup.  I know there used to be controversy over levels in
different filters, etc.--I suspect the data is more definitive now.  So
don't take the above as the complete picture, especially as it comes from
politicized sh*ts @ ATSDR.  The data above is from late '80's to early
'90's.
