JOB ANNOUNCEMENT - Please Post!
Executive Director
Center for Safer Pest Management (CSPM), an organization dedicated to
reducing pesticide use and promoting safer alternatives to pesticides in
rural and urban Illinois, seeks a full-time executive director. CSPM
(formerly known as Safer Pest Control Project) was founded in 1994 as a
partnership of Business and Professional People for the Public Interest,
Illinois Environmental Council Education Fund, Illinois Stewardship
Alliance, and the Illinois Chapter of Sierra Club. Now, with a proven
track record, its first Board of Directors, a $230,000 budget, and clear
growth potential, this newly independent organization (with a current staff
of three) seeks a dynamic leader for its next stage of development.
CSPM's current focus is primarily on children and disadvantaged communities
- for example, working to reduce pesticide use in Chicago public housing,
low-income private housing, and public schools. A major new initiative is
a campaign to ensure that recently passed CSPM-backed legislation which
requires safer pest management practices in all Illinois public schools is
well publicized, fully implemented, and fairly enforced.

À Work with the Board of Directors to develop goals and corresponding
programs to fulfill organization's mission.

À Play an active (as well as supervisory) role in CSPM's program work.
À Be willing to travel within the state of Illinois and to regional and
national meetings when needed. Availability for occasional evening and
weekend activities is expected.
Qualifications:
À Previous experience in non-profit program work, management, fundraising,
budgeting, staff supervision, and staff development.
À Demonstrated interest in CSPM's mission.
À Demonstrated ability to conceive new programs and successfully implement
them.
À Relevant bachelor's degree required; related graduate degree preferred.
À Excellent communication and presentation skills, both written and oral.
