Re: Waste To Energy
Ravig,
This is a bad news plant. It is just another variation on ordinary
incineration. At 1300 C it will cause lots of dioxin creation, lots of
nasty, dioxin-contaminated ash, lots of mercury emission contamination, and
lots of lead and cadmium emission contamination. It was my understanding
that the Indian Government had been convinced that high-temperature
combustion was a major source of dioxin and had banned medical waste
incineration. High-temperature "pyrolisis" is no different, and perhaps you
can use the medwaste ruling to your benefit.
If there is such a plant in Louisiana, then they will have had to
prepare and publish a stack emission report for the State of Louisiana and
for the EPA, it must be done every 9 months. Those stack emission reports
are usually very damning. You should ask the govt to demand that stack test
and make it public. Can you tell us the name of the manufacturer and where
the facility they are talking about is located, and someone here back in the
US can perhaps hunt down some more information about it.
When you say IT is that the name of the company??? They are infamous
here in Massachusetts, where they tried to build a plant near the largest
water reservoir (the bumper stickers said STOP IT! Very convenient name).
You can find some information about incineration (and its variants)
on my website at http://www.cqs.com/egeneral.htm, scroll down to Dioxin
information and to Solid Waste information.
I have also forwarded your memo to other incinerator activists who
should be getting in touch with you.
I hope this is helpful.
Regards
Jon Campbell
