Good point, Neil, especially relevant to connections from outside the US.
Attachments are unusually bloated in size (a file with only the word "hello"
is 25K bytes in MS-Word) and many mailers do not even handle attachments in
a uniform, standard way.
Directions: Instead of sending an attachment, go into the application
(MS-Word, WordPerfect, etc) and in the Edit menu click on Select All (or
manualy select the part of the text that you want to send) and again in the
Edit menu click on Copy (or ^C - type C while holding down the Ctrl key).
Then go to the mail application to the text window where you want to insert
the text and type ^V - type V while holding down the Ctrl key).
Some listservers don't even allow attachments because of the pain they cause
users with slow links.
