Dioxin listserv friends,

Following is a book announcement from Utah environmental activist Chip
Ward. Chip is resident of Grantsville, Utah, a town in close proximity to
chemical weapons incinerators, the infamous MagCorps magnesium plant (the
#1 polluter in the U.S. for several consecutive years) and numerous nuclear
and chemical/biological testing sites. Chip is a member of West Desert
HEAL, Families AGainst Incinerator Risks and other Utah environmental and
public health organizations, and works cooperatively with the grassroots
Chemical Weapons Working Group coalition.

Thanks for your attention! For more information please respond to myself
rather than the listserv.

I am pleased to announce the forthcoming publication of my book "Canaries on
the Rim: Living Downwind in the West" from Verso in October. The book is a
firsthand accountof several years of activism on issues that most of you know
very well - in addition to chemical weapons incineration, people who live on
the edge of the West Desert face open burning and detonation of munitions, a
magnesium refinery that is the nation's number one polluter, hazardous and
radioactive waste dumping, the proposed storage of spent nuclear fuel, and the
legacy of open air chemical, biological, and nuclear warfare testing. My goal,
of course, is to raise awareness and move others to action. You can learn more
about the book by visiting Verso's web site at http://www.versobooks.com/lists/
or by typing in the title at Amazon.com. Right now the "bound-galley" version
of the book is circulating for prepublication reviews and endorsements. Help
in this regard is, of course, appreciated.

- Chip Ward
