     Chitin was first discovered in 1811 by French scientist Blakara, and in 1823 it was first 
purified from the cuticle of arthropod animal.   Chitin exists widely in the cell of low forms 
of life, such as bacteria, algae, the cuticle of arthropod animals (locust, shrink insect and 
etc.), and the cellwall of plants .It was lately recognized for its abundant resources in 
nature and was synthesized more than 1000 thousand million tones in nature each year.
Its chemical structure is very similar with cellulose, which is the polymer of hexose. The 
basic unit of cellulose is glucose. Whereas that of chitosan is N-acetyl-D-glucosamine 
(GlcNac) with ¦Â-1,4 linkages. Because it was purified from various species of arthropod and 
has similar structure of cellulose, it was called animal cellulose.
In past, one can absorb a little chitin from insect-like species in diets, but with the using 
of insecticide to kill pests, one can't get them in diets now, which was caused by the lackage 
of insect-like species being killed, thus resulting in the destroy of biological chain. 
Besides these, the pollution of surroundings and heavy metal lead to human being's diseases 
becoming stranger and more incurable. Meanwhile one is easier to get ill when he is still 
young. All these problems make many scientists in the world take serious thinking about such 
problems and hope to find out the solutions. Chitin probably can solve such problems. Now it 
is used in many fields, especially in health care, in which it shows five main functions: 
Strength the immunity of human being, Inhibit human's becoming older, Prevent being ill, 
Improve human's recovery, Adjust body's physiological action. XiDuoAn is verified to be 
helpful in health care by adjusting body's immunity and improving the resistance of human 
body, which was clearly stated in the instrument of ratification(Number 080 ,1997 ) of the 
Ministry of Public Health of China.

    1) INTRODUCTION
      Chitosan is a kind of powder-like food with colorless, nonpoison and tasteless. It is 
insoluble in water, but soluble in dilute acid(for example, acid in stomach) , lecithin in 
milk and many enzymes in cells. Being soluble,it looks like gel .It can be hydrolyzed into 
oligo-polymer, especially, when it is composed with six GlcNac, it shows the strongest 
physiological ability.
     Chemical structure:It is a high molecular weight(M.W.) materials ,M.W. is beyond 1000 
thousand. It is a (1¡ú4)-¦Â-linked linear polymer of 2-acetamindo-2-deoxy-D-glucose(i.e. 
N-acetylglucosamino) residues. Because of amino groups in its structure, it is alkali in water 
and shows to be positive ion groups in solution.
    2) Chitosan's functions in the body
    1.  Strength the body's immunity: Strength body's protection, Improve the ability of being 
recognized, Prevent harmful factors.
Anticancer:attack cancer cell directly, activate body's protection , kill abnormal cells and 
inhibit their growth; when it is used with other drugs, it can improve anticancer effect, 
lessen complication and side-effect.
    1.1  Inhibit transfer of cancer cell: there are about 100 thousand types of drugs, among 
which only a few are used in curing cancer and none is sure to inhibit transfer of cancer 
cell; Now chitosan is verified to be able to inhibit cancer's transfer. Why? Because chitosan 
can not only inhibit blood capillary inner cell's growth, but also conjugate "attachment 
molecular", which is usually conjugated by cancer cell, now chitosan conjugates it and block 
cancer's further conjugation. In this way chitosan inhibit cancer'

prolong one's life.Why? Because chitosan can conjugate harmful oxygen ion, which is harmful to 
the normal cell by destroying them. Thus chitosan  can detoxicate such harmful ions, then 
makes people live longer.
    1.3   Eliminate harmful materials produced in the inside and outside of the body, strength 
self-curing ability and promote people's recovery.
    1.4   Adjust the body to maintain the balance of the body and prevent disease.
