POSITION AVAILABLE – COORDINATOR
WORKING GROUP ON COMMUNITY RIGHT-TO-KNOW

Since 1988, the Working Group on Community
Right-to-Know has extended and defended the rights of
citizens to know about toxic chemicals in our
communities. The Working Group serves as the
clearinghouse for public interest advocates to track
and act on right-to-know issues. The Working Group
has been instrumental in many right-to-know victories
involving the Toxics Release Inventory, safe drinking
water right-to-know, chemical accident hazards, and
reform of EPA’s ability to provide environmental
information to the public.
Job Description: The Working Group seeks a talented
individual to serve as the group’s Coordinator. The
Coordinator will organize and facilitate campaigns to
promote and protect the public’s right to know about
chemical hazards and toxic pollution. The Coordinator
will work with the Program Director and the Advisory
Committee (comprised of representatives from U.S.
PIRG, National Environmental Trust, Environmental
Defense Fund, and OMB Watch) to serve and direct both
leading national environmental organizations and a
nationwide network of activists.
Duties and responsibilities include: Communicate with
national, state and local groups and individuals about
right-to-know issues; provide technical assistance to
activists; research and write reports, a newsletter,
press releases and other resource materials; organize
meetings and conferences; develop the nationwide
network; raise grant funds to support program; and
work closely with the Program Director and
participating organizations to develop policies that
advance community right-to-know.
Qualifications: Excellent communication and
interpersonal skills; self-direction, motivation, and
tenacity; strong commitment to public interest work;
ability to coordinate several projects simultaneously;
computer skills, including Internet and database
management; good writing and editing skills;
familiarity with legislative and regulatory processes;
one or more years of experience as an organizer, work
with activist organizations, and familiarity with
toxics issues preferred.
Salary: Commensurate with experience. Full health
coverage.
