Nader statement on Boeing

  STATEMENT BY RALPH NADER
  ON THE FEDERAL TRADE COMMISSION
APPROVAL OF THE BOEING-McDONNELL DOUGLAS MERGER

Today's 4-1 decision by the Federal Trade Commission approving the
Boeing-McDonnell merger is the most portentous collapse of antitrust
  enforcement in a generation.

What credibility can the FTC have against any future horizontal merger by
two giant companies that leave the United States with only one
manufacturer of a major product line?

Only yesterday, a federal district court upheld the FTC's decision
opposing the Staples-Office Depot merger. The unavoidable conclusion from
today's decision by the FTC is that antitrust enforcement is restricted to
  smaller, less politically influential corporations.
