Having the source code answers a deep need felt by many human beings.
A programmer I am not, but it bugs the bejeezus out of me when I don't
have at least a vague idea of how something works.
Yes, computers must be for everybody. Doesn't "everybody" include the
technically inclined?

scum up with a computer system so rigged as to be incapable of accepting
