Such a broad assertion must be proven, not just stated flatly as though
it was a known fact. I'd submit that Microsoft had access to a monopoly
market share the moment the IBM-PC ROM BIOS was cracked. They then owned
the only copyright-protected portion of the device known as the IBM-PC.
The monopoly was handed to them on a silver platter, and they played it
up to the hilt.
