You are correct. The keyboard is an interface element that can be
applied across platforms. "element" was an error on my part.
"environment" or "scheme" would have been a better choice.
In the context of creating a consistant visual interface for all
platforms, key combinations are only one part. A graphical interface
(available in Win, more or less required on Mac, not available on DOS),
a mouse interface (One button, two, or three -- Or none, as in DOS) and
the keyboard are all interface elements.
Of these, only the keyboard can be assumed on all the platforms. Each
platform has different interface characteristics. This appears to be
what Mr. Mettler does not understand.
