if I believe Linux was headed to the general desktop, yeah, maybe.
I honestly don't though (even though I use it at home for my personal
desktop). The vaporware strategy would work better with something like
Be or Rhapsody (Intel). I mean, there I could see someone saying, "I'll
wait until Office is out." Maybe if engineers need it to use for their
office desktop machine or other users, I could understand the FUD
factor.
I just think that alterna solutions will beat Microsoft to the punch in
those cases. WINE (or TWINE now, I guess) is getting there. Word 95
seems to work fine according to many reports already.
