NIH to respond to letter regarding WHO use of government funded patents
On Friday the 16th, Dr. Ruth Kirschstein, the Deputy
Director of NIH, wrote to Ralph Nader, James Love
and Robert Weissman, indicating that NIH is "examining"
the issues raised in our September 3, 1999 letter
to NIH Director Dr. Harold Varmus, recommending that
NIH grant the World Health Organization rights for
use of inventions developed with NIH funding.
Our earlier letter is on the web here:

Dr. Kirschstein said that the NIH plans to send a
response in early October.
