POP's in dyes and intermediates
Hi all,
My name is Samir and I am associated with an organisation called Toxics Link.
We aare making a list of sources of POPs in India, for the INC 3.
I would like to know what Hydrochlorination is all about in the process
of manufacture of EDC. Are dioxins formed in the process.
Does anyone know how much EDC and VCM India manufactures and imports?
The dye indusrtry in India manufactures the following dyes
1. Azo
2. Acid Direct dyes
3. Disperse dyes
4. Fast colour bases
5. Ingrain dyes.
6. OIl solulble (solvent dyes)
7. OPtical whitening agents
8. Organic pigments colours
9. Pigment emulsion
10 Reactive dyes
11. Stabilised Azoics (Rapid fast/rapidogen)
12. Suplhur dyes (Sulphur black)
13. Vat Dyes
14. Solubilised Vat dyes
15. Napthols
16. Food colours.
Questions
1. Of these which dyes are chlorinated
2. What are the production processes of all these dyes.
3. In what stage of the process are the dioxins formed.
4. Do the dyes themselves have dioxins.
5. Do the wastes from the manufacture of these dyes have dioxin.
6. Does anybody have any information on this industry in India
Please do send us this information at the earliest.
