WOMEN’S HEALTH AND DIOXIN SEMINAR:
NATIONAL EXPERT COMES TO CALCASIEU
WHO: Karen Susag with the National Endometriosis Association and
Communities for a Better Environment will present a daylong workshop on
the effects of dioxin exposure on women’s health. Ms. Susag has ten
years of experience working on health and environmental justice issues
in both a professional and volunteer capacity.
Ms. Susag is the lead organizer of the Toxic Links Coalition, a
broad-based coalition of women with cancer and other environmentally
linked diseases concerned about connections between the current health
epidemic and environmental pollution. Karen was Executive Producer for
the 1996 Toxic Links Coalition video, “Stop Cancer Where it Starts”.
She has authored a number of publications including, “Endometriosis and
Dioxin: Another Toxic Link”, “Endometriosis and Dioxin: What Every
Gynecologist Should Know?”, and, “Family Health and Pollution: Dioxin
and Lead”.
WHAT: The workshop will focus on the effects and side-effects women
and their children may experience from exposure to dioxin and other
toxic chemicals. Ms. Susag will answer questions concerning specific
health issues, offer information sources and resources for area
residents’ use and guide a discussion on ways to end dioxin exposure in
Calcasieu parish.
This seminar is the first in a community education series sponsored by
Mossville Environmental Action Now, Incorporated (M.E.A.N., Inc.) on
environmental factors that lead to public health problems.
