Web Linking Lawsuits

Papers sue site for unauthorized posting of their stories The Los
Angeles Times and Washington Post have filed a copyright-infringement
lawsuit against the
Free Republic Web site, which the papers say posts hundreds of their
stories without permission.
The papers say the unauthorized postings violate their copyrights and
divert users and potential
revenue from their own Web sites. The site's operator, Jim Robinson,
said he has ignored warnings
from the newspapers because the practice is protected by the First
Amendment and the "fair use"
doctrine of copyright law. Associated Press
