Boston Globe on medical research and commercialization
Members of this list might be interested in a series that appeared on the
front page of the Globe this past Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday. They detail
how a number of researchers took federal funds (to the tune of millions of
dollars) and gave little or nothing back (in the way of stock options,
profits, etc.) when they started companies or sold treatments and drugs to
existing companies. The articles point out that the public ends up paying
twice for medical treatments: once for the grants to develop them and again
for the inflated costs of buying them.
