Philip Morris Grabs Half of Mexican Market (fwd)

MEXICO CITY, Oct. 19 (El
Financiero/Infolatina)-- Philip Morris has a
taken a firm hold of first place in the Mexican
cigarette market with 50% of national sales.
It's well-known brand Marlboro is the world's
leader and represents 30% of the Mexican
market whose annual sales add up to 22.5
billion cigarettes. Associated with Cigatam
and Tadesa, Philip Morris is the principal
competitor to La Moderna (owned by British
American Tobacco), the company has six
plants in Mexico that is spends 200 million
pesos a year to operate, with 2 thousand
direct employees and 50 thousand indirect.
