SELECT YOUR PROFIT THEY MIGHT HAVE--TO INVEST IN WORKER TRAINING, WAGE EQUALITY,
POLLUTION PREVENTION, ENERGY EFFICIENCY, etc. CAVEAT: competition might
negate some of proifits gained from high productivity. BTW, how come we
never see figures for energy productivity? We come close to leading the
world in labor productivity, but energy, another major cost, is wasted
wasted wasted)
>From the current issue of the DoL/BLS _Monthly Labor Review_ (Sept. '98);
it's a major update, 1987 -> 1996 of productivity (GDP/hr) of our economy's
sectors. A selection from table B-1, the 4-digit SIC sector productivity,
for all who believe economis are a critical component of environmental
fights. Productivity causes are as varied as technology displacing workers
and increasing output, to technology or "wants" making a product hot or
obsolete.
..
(just some nat. resource, toxic or high employment 4 digit selections)
n.e.c. = not elsewhere classified
