The CCC must be busy in Kansas: first it was pipes leaching VCM into
drinking water, now this:
The city of Wichita Kansas has filed suit against two drycleaners, two
suppliers and a perc manufacturer. The lawsuit resulted after the city
discovered perc contamination under a large parcel of land.
We believe this represents the first time drycleaners, suppliers and
solvent manufacturers have been sued jointly in connection with
underground contamination.
This comes only weeks after the Pilgrim decision in Houston, where a
supplier was found to be partly responsible for cleanup under a
contaminated drycleaning site, due to the equipment design. In that
case, 13 other perc manufacturers, equipment suppliers, and
waste hauling companies settled out of court. That precedent
is now being used to help other cleaners find deep pockets to
help them with remediation costs.
