Landfill, AIG and Illness

Hello people

I posted to the list a couple of months ago for info re: American
Insurance Group. It is no wonder everyone struggled to help as it seems
the company in question is in actual fact the American International
Groups. These people maintian it is quite ok to shove up heavily
contaminated (with chemicals like arsenic, cadmium etc) soil into a heap
at one end of a housing development and grass it over. (and let the kids
play on it no doubt)
They say they have done this on numerous occassions in the US with no
adverse health effects to those living on the site.

Does anyone on this list live, or know of anyone living in a town where
AIG (or anyone else for that matter) have done this and if there are any
problems?

The people in England fighting this crazy proposal by this company are
the Liverpool 14 Community Action Group.

They sent me the recent posting:

Jill Wilson, Planning & Develpment Knowsley Borough Council has said
that the AIG group (American International Group) have submitted their
latest proposals and guidelines based on the methodology used by them
already in the States. There is no known site in the UK where this has
been done.

Are you aware of any adverse effects/publicity/problems on any landfill
development sites where AIG have been involved. We are suspicious of
ther sudden ability to meet all of Knowsley Borough Councils criteria in
technical matters........

Could you ask any USA contacts to let you or us know of any useful
information. We are desperate to stop this development as it will allow
developers to use the same remediation techniques of sifting the
landfill and compacting down the fines to use as a base for houses on
any landfill site in the UK should planning permission be granted. The
larger material that cannot be compacted down will form a new mound
above ground which will require a Waste Management Licence.

We are on E-Mail as follows: reeceb@mersey-tec.co.uk

or Yvonne on E-Mail d.irving@cableinet.co.uk

Wishing you good health

Ralph Ryder
