info on Foster Wheeler Incinerator in Moscow
Translated message from Sergei Yufit, Institute of Organic Chemistry in Moscow:
"So much information in just two days! This is why I love Americans - for
their quick reactions and desire to help. Tell everyone thanks! I want to
submit this information for publication- we should let people know.
The incinerator is designed for 480,000 tons of trash. They want to apply
Russian technology for the utilization of flyash and bottom ash in
construction materials. They will use ALL flyash and bottom ash. There
will be two mechanisms for cleaning the gas: semi-dry scrubber with lime and
activiated charcoal (together) and and anti-dust tissue filters. We still
don't know where the funding is from, but the bidding process was initiated
by the Moscow City Government and Moscow Oblast government. Next to the site
of the incinerator is the city Noginsik. The landfill in Timokhovo (where
the incinerator has been sited) is the largest in Europe (they say). Paul
Connett was there and returned all shook up - at the landfill hundreds of
dirty people are digging through the rotting trash. Now there will be yet
another source of pollution there, the incinerator."
