Can anyone help this man
I need to know what you know about contamination from creosote plants?
We have two of these plants in our community. One was declared a
superfund site in the 1980's, and is in the final stages of clean-up.
The other one was in operation until 1996. My family lives approximately
1/4-1/2 mile from one of these plants and 1 3/4 mile from the other. We
have numerous health problems, and my daughter's baby was born with
anencephaly, (which means he had no brain and the skull didn't
completely form, this is a fatal birth defect). Among the health
problems our family and our neighbors are having are: severe and chronic
headaches, (my daughter was diagnosed with a pineal gland cyst), thyroid
problems, chronic respiratory problems, thyroid disorders, chronic
fatigue, seizures. The problems is that we also are very near three
landfills that are all in the same location about 1/4 mile from my
house. In your opinion would the creosote be the main concern? We have
tried in vain to get help from our State agencies and the Environmental
Protection Agency. We are a low income community and don't have funds
available to hire an environmental consultant. We have been told over
and over that there is nothing wrong with our environment that is
causing these problems, but we no longer believe this. Can you offer
further information?
Thank you for your time.
L.S.
Regards
Ralph Ryder
