phenylalanine / phenylaniline

Still not sure how to spell it, but I must thank all those who kindly sent me information on aspartame and phenylalanine and also phenylaniline, in answer to my query.  In summary, my eyes are not what they were, also sometimes my typing fingers get a mind of their own - the ingredient in the chewing gum etc is phenylalanine, which I now understand to be an essential amino-acid.  Phenylaniline is rather more toxic, I am told, but fortunately that is not the compound which features in the ingredients list of lots of foods, it's the "alan" one.
