viv -- I read an informal article last year saying aspartame degrades into
this or a similar sounding molecule that is quite toxic, to the liver if I
recall.  a 7th grade kid did a tight experiment, letting unopened cans of
diet soda sit for varying weeks or months, then having them analyzed.
anyway, this breakdown product is what the fuss over aspertame approval is
all about.
