APL-WALMART (fwd)

I thought this was interesting because if memory serves the forst
antitrust cases concerned companies that were engaging in horizontal
monolies, with transportation of the elements. Wal-Mart is of course not
yet a monopoly, but when you consider the narrowing field, not far away.

I heard a sketch of a story about an impending agreement or discussion
between Wal-Mart Stores and APL. The idea being that Wal-Mart will
purchase or take some interest in container vsl(s) that wll be managed
by APL/NOL and which will presumably have Wal-Mart as the base
client. I suppose -considering the most recent financials coming out
of APL/NOL it will actualy involve ship(s) that are currently owned or
chartered in by APL/NOL and will provide them with some ready
cash or release from obligations. I understand that Wal-Mart has
volume of about 50,000 FEU per year from Asia. Since deregulation
is coming, I suppose there will not be anything to prevent some form
of deal that will allow both parties to have their backs scratched...
Has anyone heard anything about this??
