on OSS and capitalism

The Reality of Linux

Why what's at stake is capitalism, not "the revolution"

Torvalds or Trotsky?

The media lately has been abuzz with the coolest new kid on the block - Linux,
a free operating system for your PC, UNIX workstation, or even Power
Macintosh computer. They frequently liken it to a revolution, and there is a
strong undercurrent of thought that a vaguely socialist / communist sentiment
somehow associated with it.

To be somewhat blunt, this ignores one of the fundamental rules of capitalism
- stupid corporations die. My own personal views aside, Linux, and Open
Source software in general, are making some serious corrections in pricing in
the software industry that are a long time in coming.

I haven't read it yet, but it looks as though it might be relevant to recent
discussions... ;-)
