TWO new versions of FreeBSD released
While we're talking about new releases, it's also worthwhile to note that TWO new versions of FreeBSD have been released in recent months. FreeBSD 2.2.7, the latest release for production environments, was developed from the -stable branch of the code. It's the most bulletproof and thoroughly tested. FreeBSD 3.0, the latest "cutting edge" release, is based on more new code. It contains more new features, runs even faster, and has very good emulation for those who have to run Linux software.
I recommend 2.2.7 (or the upcoming 2.2.8) for mission-critical servers and 3.0 for clients that need the hot new features. 3.1 will likely be the best version for both clients and servers when it appears (probably early next year).
