Microsoft not doing enough?

It's not the OS add on's that I worry about - it's why and how they got there in the first place. If Microsoft can buy the technology from someone
else (or badly replicate it) and slap it in haphazardly we get what we have with Win98. Commands that used to be in the OS are no longer there - the
tools they have don't work very well - (Hyperterminal, Backup, Stac technology, memory management the list goes on)
The end result isn't just poor technology. We could all live with poor technology (we have for some time now) The end result is something more
disastrous - little or no competition willing to really innovate a product other than to serve a single or limited number of companies.
I'd say this were something unusual but then again - I live in Detroit and I have worked for two of the "Big Three" automakers. We're breeding a
complacent company willing to let an OS out which can't keep up with technology.
