Both president of Buena Vista Internet Services and president of Disney
Online, Jake Winebaum is responsible for all of The Walt Disney
Company's Internet initiatives, including Disney.com, Disney's Daily
Blast, ABC.com, and the ESPN Sportszone and ABCNews.com joint ventures
with Starwave Corporation.--

Mr. Winebaum,

This is to inform you that I've cancelled my subscription to Disney's
Daily Blast -- once I'd determined to my satisfaction that the
impediments to Macintosh access to the site were political rather then
technological.

For *over a year* Macintosh user have been greeted (shown the door) with
the message:

"Disney Online is working diligently
with our plug-in partners to create an
enjoyable experience for Macintosh users.
This will be available soon."

Nonsense.

By changing a single, simple parameter in Netscape on my Macintosh
(identifying myself as a "Win95" system), I had no difficulty logging
onto and using Disney's Daily Blast.

This in itself was rather shocking in its implications.

Everyone likes to joke about Disney "goon" tactics - it's all part of
our urban mythology. I just never dreamed I'd actually see it in
practice. If this sounds extreme - just think what you're telling a kid
with a Macintosh, who simply wants to log onto "Daily Blast"?

o Her parents were *bad* to buy a non-Microsoft computer?

o Her money's no good at Disney?

o Mickey doesn't like the way she *thinks*?

How many Disney films tried to teach kids the simple lesson that
"honesty was the best policy". The deception you're continuing to
perpetrate on more than 20% of children on-line is pointless and
unworthy of your organization.

The Disney Store, Disney's Family.com, and other sites you maintain were
developed using Apple's WebObjects. I think it's flagrantly hypocritical
that you make a considerable amount of revenue exploiting Apple
technology - while at the same time, refusing to support others who
choose to use it.
