Re: [Fwd: Grassroots Geeks on Stipends? or Money for Nothing?]

Every time the labels start flying, I think of the following grook:

   On Problems
Our finest plans have fallen through,
     our airiest castles tumbled over,
by lines at first we neatly drew,
     and later neatly stumbled over.
                  -- Piet Hien (1905-1996)

(Quoted at <http://phobos.illtel.denver.co.us/cdrom/inet/ien/ien_110.txt>,
"Internet Addressing and Naming in a Tactical Environment," by Vint Cerf.)

On another note, when the discussion of information began, I wanted to
say that the word came into broad use in connection with computers only
because someone decided "data" and "data processing" were too dry, too
unfriendly. That's worth keeping in mind. Still, I'm glad the discussion
went on.
