Re: Linux & X11 config, freeware Motif?

I can take a shot at a few of these off-list.

One thing that surfaced today that some folks wish were a 04/01 joke...

With the release of X11R6.4 there will be a commercial use licensing fee
associated with the X Window System technology. This new licensing
structure will continue to provide the research, application development
and hobbiest communities with the same value it always has without a fee.
And, it will help assure the continued evolution of the X Window System
program with the support of those companies who build their businesses
from this technology.

Subject: Linux +ACY- X11 config, freeware Motif?

:I'm sending this from Win95, but I just wanted to let the Linux advocates
:on the list know that I am now officially a Linux geek, like it or not.
:Work requires me to run Win95, but this machine has a FAT, Linux Swap, +ACY-
a
:Linux Ext2 partition.
:
:It took me about 5 weeks on my own to learn how to download, install +ACY-
:configure Debian. (The biggest part of that was hardware compatibility/
:accelerated X Windows Server setup)
:
:But the more I learn, the more I am impressed. I just need to find a LUG
:or some Linux gurus that I live close by so I can get advice.
:
:The thing that bothered me is that my system name does not show in
Win95/NT
:browse lists, and because of that and lack of support for SMB?? in my
:current configuration, I don't feel I have the full functionality I want
:yet...
:
:And I'm so used to the illogical ways of MS software that I can still
:perform mosts tasks faster in those OS's.
:
:Growing pains, I guess.
:
:Anyway, is the freeware Motif program lesstif available for Debian Linux?
:I haven't checked dselect yet since I need to run 95 for most of the day
:today.
:
:I have heard of SAMBA as a good way to solve my MS/Linux network woes.
:
:I'm throwing these out for anyone to answer... If anyone here can hold my
:hand on these and a few other config questions I have, I'd appreciate it.
