Oh, the operating suites Win 95/8 (and the NTs too, to be complete).
The last few years work have shown (me) just how much subtle bobbing and
weaving MS is up to where their stakes are high and am further amazed at
how resilient the core GNU - Linux - Unix community has been in response.
The trends in hardware/firmware are getting dangerously close to locking in
exclusionary proprietary features for the mainstream of available high
production hardware leaving the near future bare of affordable, or even
available, assemblies to OEM or build other platforms. The trend will be,
if at all, for other implementers to pay the piper - not good for the
GNU/BSD
communities.
Should any one group have near exclusive rights to the ore?
