|Since you ask, I felt all by my lonesome for a while, but not for some
|time now. I will admit to feeling more or less dispirited from time to
|time, especially when I read the remarks of people ostensibly opposed to

Perhaps it's the magnitude of the realities, and that of some other developing
issues to which this one pales by comparison, that folks strain to mitigate
the situation, for themselves and others.

By the looks of the article that Erick A. ref'd, it's business as usual in the
OEM world with a narrow but valuable protection for third party access. In
addition, words like "most" "continue to" "working hard" "workaround"
"commited to providing a solution" add jesture but not substance to a more
vigorous response to developer or IS needs, not to mention responding to
concerns from the industry at large.

Since you have collected a set of supporting information, you may be intersted
in :

http://www.computerworld.com/idx_usea.htm

and search for: Playing the game

if you have not been there, The missing graphics are well worth looking for in
a print version. They were lost in the archive process, as they were active a
few weeks ago.

I ran across another bit of gossip, Networth says:

www.prestongates.com is running Apache/1.0.3

Gusee who? The parent site, wolfe.net runs on BSD!
