a civil tone, given the usual heat of fusion surrounding these
topics..:)

As a side obs, check out the site at: http://web.mit.edu/ and select
first option,"spotlight".
After reading it, I refrain from directly quoting the URL in question.
This could have serious implications on the cost of education, whether
it be self or institutionally directed.
A sad commentary on where things may be going.
