I personally don't see why Netscape won't continue R&D on the code unless the
code they release is as far as they really need to take it. (And want to pursue
other "features" you might say)

I would actually think this might increase their R&D on the code for a couple
of reasons

1) Gotta change the code enough to make it "useful" for a new version
2) You've got the entire world browsing through your code now, improvements are
bound to be made
