     Although I agree that IBM is a PR disaster I don't believe it
should be necessary to "court" the press in order to get a fair shake. 
I know they're (the press) are only human, but I find it distressing
that while they're telling us how objective they are their excuse for
M$ bias is the at least M$ bought them lunch.

     You won't get any argument from me on this point.  The 'cold
shoulder' IBM has often turned to developers is one of the dumbest
things I've ever seen, so I'm not about to try to explain it because it
doesn't make any sense to me either.  The next time you're throwing
rocks try to hit Lou, I believe he could really use a good shot in the
head ;-).

     On the opposite side though I believe that many ISVs got a little
too close to M$ and they're just now finding out that M$ runs more of
their business than they do.  Sure M$ gave them plenty of help, but you
can bet there's a price to pay (ie. like having to distribute that pig
IE with all their apps, and I wonder how much ISV code has found its
way into M$ products).
