I understand clearly and think exactly what you, Scott, and Norm are
most astute and correct about.
So, if I may answer your question, the direction to throw rocks is where
they will make a positive difference, and that's toward the Evil Empire,
whatever is the most effective way, so we might stop our shrinking choices,
and hopefully in our *time*.
If Lotus/IBM wanna be there, good. If they don't, screw'em, too. I see the
battle as being bigger than just the $5K per seat that someone earlier suggested
about IBM's strategy.
My concern is that the "computer paradigm" [god I hate that word, but can't
think better right now] will shift gears in such a way that M$ will obsolete
Linux, Mac's, OS/2, and anyone else...browsers, editors, and even ASCII text
files! But that's only a software consideration. When hardware standards,
whatever that may mean, is gone, we're ALL screwed. Sorta like going to
red-colored electricity that won't work with white-colored washing machines.
I believe you get my drift.
That's beginning to happen too, now, with useless mindfarts like MMX and
WinModems...selfish "standards"...that are designed *only* to exclude anyone
not in the "club".
