[Fwd: Crushed by Microsoft: What I learned]

I wrote the author of this article and got a reply. Here's his reponse
and my message.

Hi Mark

Thanks for your comments. Hope my reply does not disappoint you too much
...

I actually have rather positive thoughts about Microsoft's many
contributions to the world. What I question is how it uses the massive
power it has largely earned. With 25 years as an employee at IBM, I knew it
was wrong to promise something that had not already been accomplished.
Microsoft seems to think it's OK to say anything to beat a competitor. I
don't.

It's something about the management that allows it to compete unfairly, it's
not the employees.
Just about everyone I know at Microsoft is bright, enthusiastic, honest,
hard working ... etc etc.

Now as for using the products and services of an evil-empire, I believe that
many of things we depend on are made and sold by people who's values and
behavior we might not approve, and it's not possible to give up everything.
I mean, there are people who dislike IBM, Oracle, Netscape, Apple etc, as
much as you hate MS. Sometimes it depends on your point of view. I dunno.

Anyhow, thanks for your comments.

Rich

Nice article,

Sorry about your company. So why use IE since you know
what nasty bastards the the MS gang are? I simply won't use
MS stuff PERIOD. I'll become a plumber before I use their
stuff.
