White House Comment on Database Treaty
This is a brief note to report that a well placed White House official
called us November 6, 1996 to say that our earlier Primer on the WIPO
database treaty incorrected stated that the Clinton Administration
supported HR 3531 in the last Congress. This was the bill introduced by
Rep. Moorhead of California. The White House says that this was "an
industry bill" and the Clinton Administration never testified in support
of the bill, and does not support the bill now. Moorhead did not run for
re-election. I have made a correction to the version of the Primer on
the CPT Web pate [http://www.essential.org/cpt/ip/cpt-dbcom.html].
As noted in the document just sent out on sports statistics, the Clinton
Administration is debating whether or not to pull the database treaty off
the December WIPO agenda. The comments on the treaty to:
diploconf@uspto.gov will be helpful.
best, jamie
