Re: More carcinogens in the air in "Cancer Alley"

In response to Charlie Cray's posting of Greenpeace's press release about a
public hearing in south Louisiana on Monday evening, December 9, 1996:

I attended that same hearing and did not see 300 concerned residents
opposing the proposed facility.  In fact, what I did see what probably
around 200 supporters of the proposed facility and around 100 people
opposed to the facility.  Maybe that's how Greenpeace gets to 300.  What's
more, many of the supporters were from St. James Parish, while a lot of
opponents of the facility did not reside in St. James Parish -- they were
from Calcasieu Parish, East Baton Rouge Parish, Ascension Parish, Iberville
Parish, Atlanta, Ga., and so on.

In addition, many of the "consultants" who spoke on behalf of the company
talked about many other subjects than just economics:  the PVC industry,
the chemical industry, health issues, safety issues, training issues,
emergency response and accident prevention -- all things you would expect
to here from a permit applicant at a public hearing on a permit.

Just thought someone should clear things up a little bit.
