Great news from Poland - Thermoselect stopped!

Dear Friends,

I am happy to inform you that Thermoselect offer to construct
150.000 tpa incinerator in Zgierz, Poland is IS DEAD!!!

The "official" reason given by the Zgierz City Council is that
"the Interselect - joint venture of Thermoselect and Zgierz municipality -
was unable to find a chair person"! (he he he :)

Unofficial, the real reason why the scheme was stopped is that
the Intereselect couldn't find money to cover the construction costs 
of Thermoselect facility [191 mln DM]; and the company was unable
to find enough hazwaste to make this project profitable (commercial
service).

I will have more info when the City Council gets report from Intereselct.

This victory was possible thanks to great information support
from Greenpeace, excellent lobbying work done by young people from 
the local group of Green Federation in Zgierz, and very good (for us) 
coverage in press and TV, also on the national level.

This is third incineration project stopped this year, and 28 
since we started anti-incineration campaign in Poland.
